Supporting the effort behind every safe landing

Parrots arrive at rescues for many reasons.

Some outlive their owners. Some move through multiple homes after well-intentioned but uninformed decisions. Others come from neglect or unstable conditions where their needs were never understood. By the time a parrot reaches a rescue, the situation is usually layered and every bird has a story.

Adoption is only a small moment in a long lifespan. Rescues often become ongoing support lines for adopters while still caring for incoming birds and preparing responsible placements.
At the same time, funding is inconsistent and often tied to emergencies. Most organizations operate with limited staff, small volunteer teams, and constant workload.

The Kya Project exists to support that work and reduce the pressure around it

How the Kya Project supports rescue partners

Community funding.
20% of all Kya Project membership fees are dedicated to rescue and conservation support. Local chapters choose which rescues to support each quarter, keeping decisions in the hands of the communities closest to the work.

One year of support for every adopted bird.
Every person who adopts from a Kya Project partner rescue receives six months of membership at no cost.

Adopters have access to experienced owners and species-specific communities so questions are addressed early rather than becoming long-term issues. Rather than relying on scattered internet advice or ongoing rescue volunteer support, new homes are supported by people who understand what healthy parrot care looks like in practice.

The goal is a home where the bird can thrive.

Local chapter involvement.
Support is not just financial. Local chapters coordinate practical help around partner rescues and each chapter builds relationships within its own region so support stays relevant and ongoing rather than distant.

What we ask of rescue partners

The Kya Project works alongside rescues that prioritize long-term welfare over quick placement. Before partnership, organizations are carefully reviewed by our team so members know the birds they support are receiving thoughtful care and responsible placement.

We’re not looking for identical approaches, but we do look for shared principles: decisions made for the bird’s lifetime, not the immediate situation.

Partner rescues typically demonstrate:

Transparent adoption processes that prepare humans as much as they select them
